I compose music for live ensembles, electronic music as well as music for film and other multimedia projects. I believe in using live musicians whenever possible for my film scores (there are so many talented musicians living in Perth!)

 My original score to Dimitri Kirsanoff's 1926 French silent film masterpice Ménilmontant will screen at the Astor Theatre.

Over 7 months in the making, my score will feature the newly establish Annexia ensemble. Annexia is a 19 piece ensemble that combines some of Perth’s finest and most diverse musicians including violinist and former concert-master of the LSO Ashley Arbuckle, accordionist Cathie Travers, percussionist Callum Moncrieff and a host of other talented musicians.

Ménilmontant is a medium-length silent film directed by Dimitri Kirsanoff, which has been hailed as a striking, disturbing masterpiece.

The story follows the lives of two young sisters who experience their parents’ brutal death in the family home. Alone and on their own, the sisters move to Paris where they struggle to survive in the seedy neighbourhood of Ménilmontant.

Kirsanoff’s style is striking and experimental, his film making skills brilliantly serve the tragic and sad nature of this story. The mix of experimental techniques and melodramatic plot is brilliantly and disturbingly balanced.

In my score I utilise manipulated found sounds and electronics in combination with the 19-piece Annexia ensemble to create an evocative and moving musical accompaniment for this classic film.

WASA Awards

My score to The Director's Cut has received a WASA for best original soundtrack at the recent 2009 West Australian Screen Awards.
